So here's another from my Sketchbook Project 2011...the theme was Make Mine A Double.




I love roses! I have 2 rose bushes. Sometimes they are out of control with roses and then other times it's zip. I'm not sure why. I take care of them the same way all the time.

Did you know what the colors of the roses mean? Here it is:

Red Roses desire, passion, courage, respect, beauty, sincerity and say "I love you". A red rosebud symbolizes purity and loveliness.

Coral Roses - desire and passion.

Lilac or Lavender Roses -love at first sight or enchantment.

Orange Roses - desire, enthusiasm and fascination.

Peach Roses - gratitude, appreciation, admiration or sympathy. Also convey sociability and friendship and send the message "Let's get together". A pale peach rose symbolizes modesty.

Pink Roses - grace, gentility and happiness and express appreciation and gratitude.

Pale Pink Roses - grace, joy, gentility and gratitude.

Light Pink Roses - happiness and fun.Also convey admiration and appreciation.

Deep Pink Roses - express appreciation, admiration, sincerity and sympathy.

White Roses -truth and innocence, silence, secrecy, reverence, humility, youthfulness and charm. A white rosebud symbolizes girlhood.

Yellow Roses - friendship and freedom, convey congratulations, joy, gladness, delight. and a new beginning. Yellow roses with red tips convey friendship and falling in love.

Dead Roses - Dead roses in any color convey "It's over!"

Sunday Sketches

Another Sunday Sketch from my Sketchbook Project! As you will recall the theme was "Make Mine a Double"......so what does this have to do with double....think about it a minute while I babble.

I'm thinking about doing another Sketchbook Project. It's a big commitment. Well maybe not so big because I glued the pages together to give them some substance. The problem with the book is that the pages are so thin any pressure from the colored pencils goes right through. So I read online someone had glued the pages. That worked great.

I cannot decide on a theme. There are 40! Help me Friends.....here's what I've narrowed it down to: Uncharted Waters, Things Found Under Car Seats,  It's Summer Where You Are. Let me know what you think I should choose.

 Okay so now back to that sketch.  What do you think? Did you get it right?  The cowboy is shooting a double barrel shotgun. So now you have it! LOL That's the double reference.

Sunday Sketches

As promised here's another one of my pages from the Sketchbook Project. My theme was Make Mine a Double.

I tried to do things that were less obvious than two of something, although many in the sketchbook are doubles. Okay do you get what is the double in this????  It's the double edged hatchet. It's done in colored pencils. Look for more Sketchbook Project 2011 pages to come.

Two more pages from my sketchbook. Remember my theme is Make Mine a Double.

"Two" Colored Pencil

This page was fun to do. I just doodled some twos and filled them in with colored pencil. The page to the left is some scrapbooking paper glued to the page. I like that way that turned out. It looks nice. I was a little disappointed because when I sprayed the arrow the spray glue got a little thick in one area. I should have just redone it but I thought the glue would dry away. No luck. So I'm stuck with a wet looking mark but I learned a valuable lesson from it! Next time just redo it!

"Mirror Mirror" watercolor pencils

The mirror, mirror page is watercolor pencils. I was trying to be so frugal with the water and paint so that it didn't go through. I'm no so crazy about how this turned out. I may work a little more on it. In fact the first page I did, the Double Cheeseburger I went back and put more detail and then a red and blue line at the bottom. I replaced the scan on the last blog about the sketchbook. It needed something it was up too far and I guess I didn't plan the page out well enough. The lines help fill the page.

Well this sketchbook is not so easy to work with because the pages are so thin. If I stick to colored pencil I think I'll be okay. I had to glue a couple pages together because you could see the art from the other side. I kind of like the 2 pages together because it gives it some substance. Stay tuned for more pages from the book.

The SKETCHBOOK has arrived!

Well yesterday I received me Sketchbook. I have been thinking about it since I sent for it and I was so excited I worked on it right away.

My theme is Make Mine a Double. I have finished one of the pages.  In reading about this sketchbook project I had heard the pages were very thin and boy are they!  So rather than glue the pages together and loosing pages as others have done, I think what I'll do is do a piece of art on the right and then on the left glue a piece of artpaper on it with a quote, line from a song or some other thing that might relate to my artwork.  I haven't begun working on that as yet but it's coming. I was thinking for the cheeseburger to have the nutritional content! I'll post photos when I finish it. But the art first!

I had wanted to do watercolor but the pages are so thin so I am going to work lightly with watercolor pencils and control the amount of water I use on the brush.
Colored pencils seem to work the best so far for me. The Double Cheeseburger is colored pencil. The cover is Delta Acrylic paints sprayed with a matt finish.
